Fifties Friday: a Dutch city in the 1950s

From the curatorial effort of the EU project 1950s in Europe Kaleidoscope, every week on Friday there’s a new set of carefully selected photographs to be explored on the project’s website.

Today we present “A Dutch city in the 1950s”.

Life as it was in Zutphen in the fifties: that is the focal point of this series of images provided to Europeana.eu by Stedelijk Museum Zutphen (NL). Browsing these pictures feels like wandering through the silent streets of a world long gone, in which tradition and modernity are trying to find a new equilibrium.
