The Giants of the Pi – dancing through centuries: a new blogpost published on Europeana

Written by the Basílica del Pi de Barcelona in cooperation with Photoconsortium, a blogpost titled The Giants of the Pi – dancing through centuries was just published on Europeana.eu.

The blogpost (available in multiple languages) explores the Catalan tradition of the gegants, six meters tall puppets that once a year are brought on the streets – swaying and spinning to the beat of drums and traditional music. Far more than just a festive spectacle, the gegants are living symbols of a shared identity, rooted in history and carried forward by communities across the region of Catalonia.

In the blogpost it is possible to look at stunning historical and contemporary photographs regarding the tradition, and to explore the 3D model version of the two gegants of Barcelona – the gegants of the Pi – digitised and aggregated within the EUreka3D-XR project.
