Our project CitizenHeritage has recently come to an end. Co-financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, it assisted Higher Education Institutions in integrating citizen science practices into their curricula and teaching and learning activities. The project involved three universities (KU Leuven, National Technical University of Athens, and Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam), two Europeana domain aggregators (Photoconsortium and European Fashion Heritage Association), and one specialized SME (Web2Learn).

Photoconsortium actively participated in the project by organizing events focused on enriching photographic heritage through citizen science. These events took place in Hungary, in collaboration with OSZK (the National Széchényi Library); in Bulgaria, in partnership with the NALIS Foundation and the Faculty of Philosophy of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”; and in Cyprus, in collaboration with the Digital Heritage Research Lab of Cyprus University of Technology. During these events, activities were conducted to improve metadata by annotating and enriching the digitized collection of early photography and film.

Additionally, a conference on digitization and the utilization of participatory approaches in a cultural and educational context was held in Pisa, Italy, in cooperation with the Museo della Grafica and the University of Pisa. During the conference, participants were invited to share heritage photos from their family albums, that had been digitized on the spot by a professional photographer. The photos and the related stories were collected and published on Europeana, the digital gateway to European cultural heritage.
