Stemming from the partnership with INCULTUM H2020 project dedicated to promote cultural tourism in Europe, PHOTOCONSORTIUM aggregated a selected collection of contemporary travel photography in Europeana.

As a curatorial effort to promote the reuse of cultural collections in the area of tourism, a number of nice Europeana galleries was also created, to discover unknown or lesser known locations and stories of communities in Europe.

Today we present “Aoos/Vjosa, the shared river“.

This River (Vjosa in Albanian, Aoos in Greek), considered as ‘one of Europe’s last living wild rivers’, springs from Mt. Pindus in Greece and then enters Albania. On both sides of the river banks, extends a terrain of agrarian field terraces alternated to hilly lands of rich Mediterranean vegetation, next to high mountain massifs with rich water sources, forests, flora and fauna, and broad prominent pastures. Main cities in the area are Përmet in Albania and Konitsa in Greece.
