From the curatorial effort of the EU project 1950s in Europe Kaleidoscope, every week on Friday there’s a new set of carefully selected photographs to be explored on the project’s website.

Today we present “Keeping it cool in the fifties – by Michalis Giazitzoglou“.

We’re excited to share this collection, that was handpicked by Michalis Giazitzoglou during our recent Kaleidoscope crowdsourcing workshop in Athens. Michalis browsed Europeana.eu for striking 1950s images, and was surprised by these very cool portraits. Did you ever imagine your grannies and grandpas to have been so stylish, suave and hipster chic…? Enjoy these pictures and get creative with Europeana yourself!

The Kaleidoscope annotation campaigns are still ongoing, join us!

What we’re looking for: creative minds to add descriptive tags to 1950s photographs sourced from Europeana.eu, Europe’s largest portal to digital cultural heritage

Why we’re doing this: because metadata matters. We believe that adding relevant keywords to images will make them more easily discoverable in the treasure throve that is Europeana:

  • Surf to withcrowd.eu
  • Enter a campaign (Style & Design or Transport & Travel)
  • Add or upvote tags to the pictures
  • Work your way up to the top of the rankings

And afterwards don’t forget to share your impressions via the online survey. Thanks!!
