PHOTOCONSORTIUM – International Consortium for Photographic Heritage

PHOTOCONSORTIUM – International Consortium for Photographic Heritage is a non for profit association devoted to the promotion and enhancement of the culture of photography and photographic heritage, and is committed in the areas of digital cultural heritage, access and reuse of cultural content, citizens’ engagement and education.

All the initiatives of the Association are primarily devoted to serving the interests of its members. PHOTOCONSORTIUM participates, and promotes the participation of its members, in projects and initiatives, including but not limited to participation in the Programmes of the European Commission, and organizes photographic exhibitions, co-creation and participative events, seminars and conferences, and training courses. PHOTOCONSORTIUM is also the expert hub on photography for Europeana.eu and operates as accredited aggregator for photographic collections, supporting public and private photographic archives in making their metadata available for Europeana.

Vice-president: Dr. Antonella Fresa, Promoter s.r.l.

Twelve elected members compose the Association’s Steering Committee.

A center of expertise on digitization, digital archives, metadata standards

PHOTOCONSORTIUM represents a centre of expertise and knowledge on digitization, aggregation of content to Europeana and other portals, metadata standards, indexing, cataloguing and controlled vocabularies, best practices for the management of digital archives, and much more. This expertise and knowledge is the core to generate activities, provide services, organise training programs and seminars and participate in new research.

Photographic exhibitions

As an example of activities targeting the general public, the Association is leveraging photographic heritage and storytelling for the creation and curation of exhibitions, both in physical and digital format.

A democratic structure that welcomes new members sharing its aims

PHOTOCONSORTIUM has been established as a non-profit association with a democratic structure, political independence, and unlimited duration. PHOTOCONSORTIUM allows membership to both natural and legal persons, public or private bodies, companies, and associations. Founded by the partners of the EuropeanaPhotography project, the association aims to enlarge its network internationally and welcomes new members sharing its aims. PHOTOCONSORTIUM developed a Gender Equality Plan which was published in March 2023.
